West Bengal: Violence at Shanti Niketan's Visva-Bharati University

Visva-Bharati University in Shanti Niketan, located in West Bengal's Virbhum district, is in turmoil. Locals are protesting against the construction of a wall near a fair ground. Protesters demolished several historic structures while throwing bricks and cement at the construction site.

In fact the Visva-Bharati University administration started construction of a wall last week. Which the locals are protesting. The wall is being constructed near a fair ground. In protest, locals staged a demonstration on the university campus. So far the protesters have demolished some historical structures.

More than 3,000 locals gathered on the university campus. Who demolished some historical structures. The bricks and cement kept for the construction of the wall were lifted and thrown away. The wall is being constructed to prevent people from entering the university campus from outside.

Protesters also damaged a nearby JCB machine. So far as the wall was built and ready. It has been demolished by the locals. As well as the number of structures in the area. All have been broken by the protesters.

About 100 vigha of land was opened in Shanti Niketan. Where there is no rock talk. There seemed to be a fair on this ground. Rs 61 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of premises around the ground on which the posh fair takes place. There seems to be a posh fair here every year.

The locals use the ground for morning walks. Even though it is rocky here, people keep moving after 5 pm every evening. The Chancellor of the University Vidyut Chakraborty was also present on the day the wall construction work was started.
