We are committed to bringing back Article 370

-Announcement made by the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir

-Any kind of division of the state is not acceptable

Srinagar 24th August 2020 Monday

Leaders of all mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference, PDP, Congress and the People's Conference, said in a public statement on Sunday that they were committed to re-establishing Article 370 and 35A of the Constitution. Our fight is still going on. We do not accept any kind of division of the state.

The public statement was made by Dr. Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference, Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, Sajjad Lone of the People's Conference, G. A. Mir, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress, M. Y. Tarigami of the Marxist Party and the Awami Kashmir National Conference of the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Conference. The leaders also signed an agreement reached on August 5 last year when the central government abolished the special status of the state. It was called the Gupkar Treaty. All these leaders held a meeting on Saturday 22 August. It claimed that we were committed to regaining the special status given to the state by India on the eve of independence and that the partition of the state was not acceptable to us in any way. However, Mehbooba Mufti herself could not attend the meeting as she has not yet been released from custody. Similarly, former chartered accountant Shah Faisal was also not present at the meeting.

Addressing the people of Jammu and Kashmir, these leaders roared that we are ready to fight to restore the status quo of Jammu and Kashmir as it was on August 4, 2019. We are with you (the people) and our fight will continue till Jammu and Kashmir regains its special status. The meeting claimed that we strongly oppose the social and political sanctions imposed on us by the central government and that we have succeeded in reactivating all our internal communications to fight together.
