Abu Yusuf Khan, an ISIS militant from Uttar Pradesh, was abducted by the Special Branch of Delhi Police after an encounter on Dhaula Kuan Ring Road and was on the verge of a major attack in Delhi, police said. Abu was captured alive after another gunfight broke out on Friday night when another militant managed to escape.

The IED recovered from Abu was diffused by National Security Group bomb experts. A police spokesman declined to comment further, saying only that Abu and his accomplices were planning a major attack in the capital and wanted to assassinate a VIP leader in particular.

It may be noted here that in the last few days, the intelligence department had received information that three Jaish-e-Muhammad militants had infiltrated Delhi and were preparing for a major attack. After receiving the news, the police became more vigilant and also deployed their own informants so that timely action could be taken.

A police spokesman also hinted that more information from Abu could lead to the arrest of some people. The police spokesman declined to say which leader Abu planned to assassinate.

For the last few days, militants have been carrying out daily raids in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces believe that the terrorists were planning a major attack in Delhi by keeping the security focus on Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter began on Friday night when police received the news in a timely manner.
