Sonia Gandhi to remain Congress interim president for next one year, meeting rejects resignation

A meeting of the Congress Working Committee has decided that Sonia Gandhi will currently be the party's interim chairperson. The Congress Working Committee has decided that Sonia Gandhi will continue as the party's interim chairperson for one more year.

A meeting of the Congress Working Committee was held today on the leadership of the Congress in which the leadership of the party was openly discussed. During the meeting, interim party president Sonia Gandhi spoke of resigning as party president while party leaders appealed to her to remain in office.

At a meeting of the Congress Working Committee, Sonia Gandhi resigned from the post of interim chairperson and called for the election of a new party chairperson. However, many leaders, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AK Antony, appealed to Sonia Gandhi to remain in office.
