Srinagar Dt. 13 August 2020, Thursday

Shah Faisal's departure from politics added to the challenges facing the central government in Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre's policy of starting a new politics in Jammu and Kashmir without the three racist parties, the Congress, the National Conference and the PDP, is a complete failure.

Attempts were made to inculcate in the mind of Faisal, who was selected as the smartest, handsome and Harvard University Scholar in the All India Civil Service, that he could also be the top leader and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. However, after assuming the chairmanship of a political party in Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal was likely to become a chartered officer once again.

The events that followed the repeal of Article 370 make it clear that the central government was behind Faisal's short political career. He was arrested as part of a plot to make him a leader and was later released. Nine to ten days after his release, he was re-arrested on charges of allegedly fleeing Turkey. Shah Faisal is an excellent example of how government agencies play games to appease the central government. Faisal's party, the Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement, did not make a big splash in politics. On the contrary, the party was instrumental in tarnishing the image of many Kashmiri youth, including the promising student leader Shehla Rashid. Shehla left the party after being with the party for seven months.

Realizing that he had failed in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal announced his decision to return home, thus increasing the challenges of the Central Government once again in Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre's attempt to formulate a new politics without the three racist parties previously active in the state is considered a failure.
