Prashant Bhushan contempt case: Supreme Court upholds its decision

New delhi date. Tuesday 25 August 2020

Prashant Bhushan's contempt case was heard today over a tweet against Chief Justice of India SA Bobade. Attorney General KK Venugopal and Prashant Bhushan's lawyer Rajiv Dhawan demanded that the sentence not be passed. The apex court said Prashant Bhushan's tweet was inappropriate. The Supreme Court has reserved its decision.

During the hearing, Attorney General KK Venugopal said this should be pardoned. The bar will also appreciate your step. He has also done many good deeds. Food security, for laborers, for basic rights.

The Supreme Court said about this but when this attacked you, you did not come to us with a contempt petition.

Attorney General KK Venugopal said but I did not withdraw the complaint.

The Supreme Court said, but Ape withdrew when he expressed remorse. Now he says so, but when someone dares to shake the foundation, someone has to do something. For that he fabricated his own truth and used it. This is very negative and in many cases even discouraging.

The Supreme Court said, "If you are advising us to do this and if we do, then this will also accuse us." As Attorney General, think about what he said. We find your statement malicious.

After the hearing, the apex court asked Prashant Bhushan to reconsider the allegations and withdraw his statement if he so wished.

Prashant Bhushan's lawyer Rajiv Dhawan said that if Bhushan was convicted, it would be a black day for the judiciary. Prashant Bhushan has served the judiciary and the country well as a lawyer. His contribution is immense.

Arguing in defense of Prashant Bhushan, Rajiv Dhawan said that he has written a lot about judges and judiciary and has also criticized. He has also written hundreds of articles. The order was given at the last hearing that two days be granted for unconditional pardon. This is false jurisprudence.

Rajiv Dhawan said that if Prashant Bhushan's statement is read, he said that he has the highest respect for the institute. But they have different views about the last 4 CJIs and the manner of this court. We also criticize the court when we feel honest about the organization.

Rajiv Dhawan said the court as an institution should continue to be criticized for maintaining it. The court should reverse its decision to convict Prashant Bhushan for contempt of court and if not, he should not be given any punishment for contempt, as the criticism made by him was harsh but not insulting.
