After India and the US, now Taiwan also officially announced the banning of some Chinese apps. Taiwanese authorities announced a complete ban on Chinese streaming platforms iQiYi and Tencent.

Taiwan's finance ministry officials announced that the move was aimed at curbing China's move to sell subsidiaries in Taiwan under the influence of a Chinese media company. The director of Taiwan's communications department said a complete ban on the apps would take effect on September 3. We have instructed Taiwanese companies to secure their data. In particular, all the companies that dealt with Chinese companies were told that since Chinese apps were banned, you should note that Chinese content coming through the Internet could no longer come in and keep your data secure.

At the same time, the finance ministry warned that criminal cases would be filed against companies or individuals violating the ban and that the decision would be made by the national communications department itself.

iQiYi partnered with Taiwan's iOTT Company through its Hong Kong subsidiary and Tencent's WeTV was streaming in Taiwan through a partnership with Taiwan's Ren Feng Media Tech Company through its Image Future Investment in Hong Kong.

Professor Lin Ying Tae, a professor in the Department of Information Engineering at the National Chiao Tung College in Taiwan, said iQiYi and Tencent apps were under the direct control of the Chinese Communist Party. The professor said the decision was made with the understanding of the Taiwanese government.
