News of relief for motorists: December exemption for license and fitness certificate

There is good news for motorists who have not yet renewed other required documents including driving, registration, vehicle fitness for those driving during the Corona era.

However, the Central Government has extended the time limit for required documents like driving license, registration, vehicle fitness etc. under the Motor Vehicle Act till 31st December 2020. This means that a document that has expired after February can now be updated by the end of the year.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the documents are due to expire on February 1, 2020 and are due in the coming days. Its time limit has been extended to 31 December 2020.

The deadline was earlier extended to March and June. Last June was also given relief till 30th September. Which was extended to the end of the year.

It may be mentioned that under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, fitness, permit, license, registration and other documents are required.
