Girish Chandra Murmu becomes first tribal officer to hold CAG chair

Girish Chandra Murmu, the first Vice-Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, abruptly resigned from his post on Wednesday and his resignation was later accepted by the President. GC Murmu has now taken over as CAG. After taking office, he paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar at the CAG office. President Shri Ramnath Kovinde Murmu was sworn in as CAG at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

GC Murmu is the first officer of the tribal community to become the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He has been touted as a special envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will now be replaced by former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Manoj Sinha as the Vice-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
