Dom Raja, who was a proposer in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's candidature, died this morning after a long illness. Dom Raja, 55, of Varanasi was undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Sigra.

Dom Raja's family members said that as his health deteriorated further this morning, we immediately took him to a private nursing home. There he breathed his last after a while. He had been undergoing treatment for a long time due to a thigh injury. As soon as the news of Dom Raja's demise was received, people started arriving at Dom Raja's residence on Tripura Ghat. The family members said that his funeral would be held at Manikarnika Ghat. Meanwhile, a large crowd of fans froze near his residence.

Dom Raja Jagdish Chaudhary was also present as a supporter of Narendra Modi while contesting the second parliamentary elections from Varanasi. "For the first time in our lives, we have been recognized by any political party, especially the Prime Minister," he told the media. Earlier many leaders came to ask for votes but after getting votes all forgot us.

Dom society is made up of people doing funerals. The cremation of bodies at Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat in Varanasi is done by the people of this Dom community. Jagdish Chaudhary was addressed as Dom Raja as he was in charge of the funeral at both the ghats. Five hundred to six hundred Doms live together on these two ferries.

Since the people of this community live on the cremation ground, those who consider themselves of the elite community do not look at the people of the Dom community with respect.
