Beirut, Ta. 10 August 2020, Monday

Protests continue in Lebanon following the Beirut bombings. Amid outrage in Lebanon following the blasts, another cabinet minister, Katar Damienos, has resigned.

Environment Minister Damienos said in a statement on Sunday that he was resigning from his ministry to unite with the victims. A bomb blast near the northern city of Beirut has killed at least 160 people and injured 6,000 others. Damienos called the ruling system in Lebanon bad and said many opportunities for reform had failed.

Damienos had already tendered his resignation on Sunday but was also in talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Deb. The Lebanese people are blaming negligence and mismanagement for the blasts. Protests continue in Beirut amid calls for government officials to resign. In the midst of all this, another cabinet minister resigned from his post on Sunday. Earlier, Lebanon's Information and Broadcasting Minister Manel Abdel-Samad resigned from his post.

Protests continue in the wake of the Beirut bombings. In Beirut, protesters surrounded Lebanese ministries on Saturday. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces as they marched on parliament. Tear gas shells were then fired to disperse the protesters.
