A huge fire was reported at TS Genco's hydel power house in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal in Telangana's Nagarkurnul district. Seventeen employees were working inside when the fire broke out. Eight of these employees came out safely through the tunnel. Efforts to rescue the remaining employee were ongoing.

A fire was reported late Thursday night after a plume of Chomer smoke appeared. The fire was suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Among those trapped in the fire were six employees of the TS Genco Company and three others of a private company. Arriving at the scene, the fire brigade immediately went to work. Efforts were on to rescue the deputy engineers and assistant engineers trapped inside. According to fire brigade personnel, the relief work was hampered by thick smoke.

Jagdish Reddy, a minister in the Telangana state government, and Prabhakar Rao, managing director of TS Genco, rushed to the spot and inspected the relief work. He said there was so much smoke in the tunnel that relief workers could not get inside. Specialist relief workers from Singareni Colliery were brought there. The Srisailam dam was on the other side of the Krishna river. The need for a border between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was good.
