Will Ashok Gehlot have to take a floor test? The governor is expected to convene a meeting of the legislature on Monday

Jaipur Ta. Thursday 23 July 2020

The gossip that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will be instructed to take the floor test by Governor Kalraj Mishra started in political circles.

The ongoing case in the High Court has not been settled after the mutiny of the youngest and most talented MLA Sachin Pilot and others. The Rajasthan High Court had directed the Speaker not to take any action against Sachin Pilot or his associates till July 24. Against this decision of the High Court, the Speaker had applied to the Supreme Court that the Speaker has a constitutional right to act against any MLA. The High Court cannot interfere in that right.

Meanwhile, rumors were circulating that the Rajasthan governor might call an assembly session on Monday and instruct Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to prove his majority on the floor.

Led by Sachin Pilot, 19 MLAs revolted against Ashok Gehlot's government. The Congress Movdi Mandal sacked Pilot from the post of Region Congress President and the Chief Minister removed Pilot from the post of Deputy Chief Minister. He also gave water to three ministers who were considered supporters of the pilot.

The pilot group had filed an application in the High Court, giving reasoned notice to the pilot and all his supporters, Assembly Speaker CP Joshi said. The High Court restrained the Speaker from taking action against the pilot group so the Speaker went to the Supreme Court. His application was scheduled to be heard on July 23.

Meanwhile, Ashok Gehlot wrote a letter to the Prime Minister urging him to stop the ruling party's efforts to destabilize his government. Sachin Pilot, on the other hand, had sent a legal notice to Giriraj Malinga alleging bribery.
