West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra dies after a long illness

West Bengal Congress state president Somen Mitra passed away late last night. His health has been bad for the last few days. Somen Mitra was suffering from some ailments and was also undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Calcutta. However, Somen Mitra died at the hospital at the age of 78.

According to hospital sources, Mitra was admitted to the hospital a few days back due to kidney ailment. However, he died of cardiac arrest. He breathed his last late Thursday night at 1:30 p.m. His corona was also tested. His investigation report was negative.

The West Bengal Congress has expressed grief over the demise of Somen Mitra. "WBPCC president Somen Mitra has recently breathed his last," the West Bengal Congress tweeted from its Twitter account. In the midst of this immense sorrow, our prayers and thoughts are with Grandpa's family.

Somen confirmed the death to a member of Mitra's family. A family member said he was hospitalized with kidney and heart disease. Veteran Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP Somen Mitra was born on December 31, 1941. They also have a son.
