Ladakh, Ta. 2 July 2020, Thursday

Ladakh is a small village with only 63 houses, most of whose people are associated with the Indian Army. All the minors from every household in this village are members of the Indian Army and their postings have taken place in the vicinity of the Line of Actual Control. The people of Chushot village have been serving in the army for many generations. The people of this village are also part of the Ladakh Scout, Infantry Regiment. The gentle, humble but dangerous warrior youth here have maintained the old tradition.

Most of the people of Chushot village have been serving in the Army. Women are very common in this village and some small children are also seen. People who have joined the army live in this village. The husband of a 34-year-old woman named Zara Bano was martyred while on duty and his three brothers are also in the army. "I have two sons who will probably join the Indian Army," said Zara Bano. It's like a rule here for boys. '

However, Zara Bano cannot think clearly about the future of her two daughters. Describing her ordeal, Zara Bano said, "Both my daughters need proper education. We don't have a good school system here. I'm not worried about their future. '

Lack of proper schools

Other people in the village are also facing the same concern. Lack of education is holding back the people here. Women and men here are equally concerned about education. Hajira Bano's three brothers are part of the Ladakh Scout and all three are stationed in eastern Ladakh near LAC. "We don't know why they are there," said Hajira Bano, expressing concern about her brothers. The phone network is down here and the brothers are not allowed to use the phone considering the current situation. '

Rukaiya Bano, a 27-year-old girl, went to graduate but had to give up her studies in the meantime. He is currently working in the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Women empowerment is being promoted through this government mission.

It is difficult for girls to study beyond high school

Most of the girls in this village cannot go beyond high school. The boys here study up to 12th standard so that they can join the Indian Army. Older women here are hesitant to talk about their children but younger women go ahead and talk. The brave boys who join the army here can also emerge as army officers if they get proper education.

People struggling against lack of proper education

Ghulam Mohammad, the hero of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan, has two sons. He wants his sons to become army officers if they can get proper education in the village. "We lack good education here," said Ghulam Mohammad, a retired constable. I want our next generation to be officers in the army. '
