PM Modi's address to UN for the first time today after India's victory in UNSC

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the United Nations (UN) today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address will be held at an event in New York on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. This is Prime Minister Modi's first address since becoming a temporary member of the UN (Security Council). Prime Minister Modi's address will be completely virtual.

Prime Minister Modi will address an annual high-level segment of the session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESC). Prime Minister Modi will address the United Nations in New York from 9:30 am to 11:30 am (local time). He will address the concluding session with the Prime Minister of Norway and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier addressed the UN General Assembly in September last year. Prime Minister Modi at the time urged the international community to unite against terrorism.

India has been elected as a temporary member of the Security Council for two years. Out of 192, 184 votes were in favor of India. India's last term was to end on January 1, 2021. The United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China are permanent members of the Security Council, with 10 non-permanent members. Half of them are selected every year for two years.

PM's inaugural address at the UN

Prime Minister Modi had earlier addressed the UN General Assembly in September 2019. In his address, the Prime Minister mentioned issues like Mahatma Gandhi, sanitation, terrorism. Referring to Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Modi said, "It is an honor for me to address the 74th session of the UN on behalf of 130 crore Indians." This occasion is also special because this year the whole world is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi's message of truth and non-violence is relevant to the whole world even today.
