Jats and Punjabis less intelligent, CM apologizes after controversial statement

Agartala, dated 21 July 2020, Tuesday

Tripura CM Biplob Deb has apologized after making catastrophic remarks on the Jat and Punjabi community.

However, his statement could provoke regional sentiments. Because the controversy over this issue has already erupted. CM Deb said in a press conference that if we talk about the people of Punjab, they are called Punjabis and also called Sardars. Sardars are not afraid of anyone and are very powerful but they have less brain. They can only be conquered by love.

Referring to the Jat community, he said that the Jats are less intelligent but physically healthier. If you challenge a Jat, he will come out of the house with a gun. Speaking of Bengalis, they are very intelligent. Thus each community has its own distinctive features.

However, now Biplab Deb has apologized for his statement and said, "I am very proud of the Punjabi and Jat community." I did not speak with the intention of hurting the feelings of any society. I myself have lived between these two communities. My friends come from this community. I always bow to him for his contribution to the freedom struggle. He has a huge role to play in moving India forward.
