Indian court summons Alibaba and Jack Mann for fake news

An Indian court has summoned Chinese giant Alibaba and its founder Jack Mann. In fact, the summons were sent to Jack Mann based on a complaint from an Indian employee. The employee alleged that he had been wrongly fired.

An Indian employee was working for a company called UC Browser in China. The Indian employee allegedly spread false news in UC Browser and UC News and the employee was subsequently fired. The central government has banned 59 Chinese apps. It also includes Alibaba's app UC Browser and UC News.

The government imposed the ban despite tensions with Chinese troops on the Ladakh border as 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the clashes. The central government decided to ban these applications citing security.

According to the court filing, on July 20, Pushpendra Singh Parmar, a former employee of Alibaba's UC Web, alleged that UC Web censored all anti-China content and ran fake news on UC Browser, UC News.

Gurugram Civil Court Judge Sonia Sheokand has issued summons against Alibaba, Jack Ma and about a dozen others. According to the court, all these people have to come here by July 29 or send their lawyer to the court here. The judge also asked the company and executives to respond in writing within 30 days.
