Virappan's daughter Vidya, who at one time posed a problem for the two state governments and has become synonymous with terror in the South, has entered politics. The BJP has made Vidya the president of the Tamil Nadu youth wing.

Vidya Virappan is a law graduate and currently runs a school in Krishnagiri. Says Vidya Virappan, 29. I do not represent a single community I believe in humanism and want to move in the direction of human service.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which wants to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu, has started a round of discussions in political circles by appointing Vidya Virappan to a responsible post. Vidya said that she had seen her father only once in her childhood. At that time I would be six or seven years old. My grandfather went to village Gopinatham during school vacation.

Vidya's mother Mathulakshmi T. V. K (Tamizag Vaz Duvurimai Kachi) is also associated with this party of Vaniyar Samaj is now a supporter of NDA. Vidya joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in February.

Earlier, a local leader had introduced him to Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan. Knowing my intention to do social service, Radhakrishnan advised me to join BJP. Thus I joined the BJP.

It is worth mentioning that the name of the infamous sandalwood thief Virappan, who had killed a number of elephants in the forests of the south and had been harassing the police of the three states for decades, made people shudder. Virappan was responsible for the deaths of 150 people. Virappan hunted more than 100 elephants to get ivory. He earned crores of rupees from ivory smuggling. Apart from this, Virappan's gang was also involved in cutting sandalwood trees and smuggling sandalwood timber. That is why Veerappan was given the 'adjective' of sandalwood.

Virappan made headlines in the year 2000 when he kidnapped Kannada film actor Rajkumar and released him a few weeks later. Four years later, in 2004, Vijay Kumar, led by the Tamil Nadu Police Special Forces, was shot dead.
