Discussions between Dobhal and Wang Yi lasted for 2 hours before the withdrawal of Chinese troops

New Delhi, 6 July 2020 Monday

The two armies clashed after a clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, but now the Chinese army is ready to retreat.

The incident was preceded by a two-hour long video call between National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday.

India and China, meanwhile, have agreed to take immediate action to end tensions over the LAC and not take any unilateral action in the disputed area, which could change the status quo, the Indian External Affairs Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry said that National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation on Sunday and discussed the recent dispute in the western sector of the Indo-China border areas.

The Foreign Ministry said the two countries agreed that the process of de-escalating the Line of Actual Control would be completed expeditiously.

Talks between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will continue to maintain peace under the bilateral agreement and protocol on the Indo-China border, the ministry said.

The State Department said it stressed that the Line of Actual Control should be respected and unilateral action should not be taken to maintain the status quo.
