China's intrusion into higher education sector also worries security agencies

New Delhi , 23 July 2020, Thursday

Security agencies have been shocked by China's footprint in higher education, as in other parts of the country.

While the government has been active in shifting the scissors to the role of Chinese companies in the telecom and power sectors, the government could also make important announcements for the higher education sector to curb Chinese infiltration.

A meeting on Chinese companies was held on July 15. The meeting was also attended by some senior central government officials. Security agencies gave a presentation, according to sources familiar with the meeting. It showed how China is also infiltrating the higher education sector.

Officials at the security agencies feared that the Chinese government or universities or companies affiliated with the ruling Communist Party could be involved.

According to the agencies, there are a number of universities and colleges in India that have signed MoUs with Chinese institutions without permission. This is a dangerous trend.
