One more black man killed in police firing in America, violent protests in Atlanta

Tensions have risen in the United States over the death of another black man in a police shooting.

Richard Brooks, a 27-year-old black man, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Atlanta. He then tried to flee by snatching a police officer's electric shock gun and was shot dead by the officer.

Protests erupted in Atlanta after the incident. Protesters set fire to a restaurant and jammed a nearby road.

Police Chief Erica Shields resigned. The mayor of Atlanta has announced the resignation of the police chief. Mayor Kisha Lance said the decision was Police Chief Shields' own.

The mayor said police were notified that a man sleeping in the car had blocked the road outside the restaurant. Police arrived and a confrontation ensued.

Tensions have risen in Minneapolis following the recent death of a black man, George Floyd, in police custody, following violent protests in the United States.
