Nepal's woman MP enthusiastically favors India over map issue in Parliament

Kathmandu, 14 June 2020, Sunday

A map showing the extent of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpia Dhura areas on the border of India and Nepal has been passed in the lower parliament of Nepal.

However, Sarita Giri, a Janata Samajwadi Party MP from Nepal and a leader of the Madhesi people, who was already in favor of India on the issue, vehemently opposed the map in Parliament.

Sarita Giri has already opposed the map and the decision of the Nepal government. However, Sarita was not allowed to speak in Parliament. "A woman has been insulted in Parliament. My voice has been silenced," he said. The way I am being treated in Nepal can make the situation in Nepal similar to that in Bangladesh. Bangladesh was created because of the humiliation of women.

Targeting the Oli government, he said the combination of racial sentiment and nationalism was not conducive to national unity.

Notably, his own party also threatened Sarita Giri not to speak out against the map. However, Sarita Giri did not remain silent.

He says the Nepalese government should first talk to India and China about a new map and then release it. Even the people of Nepal do not want the dispute with India over the map to escalate. Nepal does not have enough evidence for Kalapani.

Sarita Giri was also attacked and threatened at her home before she sided with India on the issue of maps.
