Nepal releases Indian national detained during cross-border firing

Nepal has released an Indian national who was taken into custody during a firing incident on the Indo-Nepal border on Friday. Nepal Police arrested Indian national Ram Lagan Rai after the incident of firing on Friday morning and released him early on Saturday morning.

In fact, amid ongoing tensions between the two countries, there was a firing on the border on Friday in which one person was killed and four others were injured. Bihar's Sitamarhi police has submitted its report on the incident. According to reports, Nepali security forces took a man named Lagan Rai into custody.

The incident took place at Janaki Nagar ward in Sonbarsa Thana area of ​​Sitamarhi near the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar. Giving details of the incident, SSB DG Rajesh Chandra said that while a family was on their way to Nepal, they were stopped by Nepali security forces at the border and told to go back so that a dispute arose and Nepali security forces opened fire.

The firing comes amid a dispute between India and Nepal over Kalapani and Lipulekh. In November 2019, the Indian Home Ministry released a new map covering the Kalapani region, which Nepal claims. It is also claiming areas of India as its own.
