Government withdraws petrol-diesel price hike: Sonia Gandhi writes letter to PM Modi

The country is currently going through a crisis of corona virus and the lockdown has had a major impact on business and employment. Petrol-diesel prices have been rising every day for the last 10 days amid the crisis.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue. Sonia Gandhi wrote that even in times of crisis, your government is constantly raising prices and has earned hundreds of crores of rupees from this. Sonia Gandhi has demanded that the government immediately reverse the price hike.

Sonia Gandhi wrote in her letter that the government has earned about Rs 2.6 lakh crore by raising petrol and diesel prices amid lockouts. At a time when people are in crisis, raising prices in this way is putting more pressure on the masses. It is the duty of the government to alleviate the plight of the people.

"I do not understand why the government is raising prices in this way when there are so many jobs going on in the country and people are struggling to survive," he wrote. Today crude oil prices are falling steadily and the government has been raising prices steadily for the last 6 years.

Sonia Gandhi wrote that the government has increased excise duty on petrol by 258 per cent and diesel by 820 per cent in the last six years. From which about 18 lakh crore rupees have been earned.

Sonia Gandhi has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately reverse the hike and provide relief to the common man.

It may be mentioned that petrol and diesel prices have been increasing in the country every day for the last ten days. Also on Tuesday, petrol was hiked by 47 paise and diesel by 75 paise. In Delhi, petrol is now priced at Rs 76.73 and diesel at Rs 74.62.
