"China must be prepared for military action against Taiwan," said General Li Zhoucheng, a senior Chinese military official. There is no other way to prevent Taiwan from becoming independent.

China considers Taiwan its own while Taiwan claims to be an independent country. Wherever a country supports Taiwan, China is always threatening that country.

The official added that military action was the only option if the possibility of peacefully annexing Taiwan to China was eliminated and that the people of Taiwan would also support China. There is no room for separatism in China.

The rift between China and Taiwan dates back to 1949, when the Communist Party, led by Mao Tse Tung, overthrew the then-ruler of China, Chiang Kai-shek, and formed a new government on the island of Taiwan. At that time the Communist Party did not have such a strong navy. So Mao did not risk taking over the island.

Although Taiwan has since considered itself a separate country, China considers it its own.
