Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country's largest carmaker, has started production in a single shift after 20 days at its Manesar plant in Haryana. The plant was shut down for 20 days following a nationwide lockdown.

A few days ago, other car makers Hyundai, Toyota, Renault and Nissan also announced partial production.

If the Manesar plant operates in two shifts, it has the capacity to produce 2.5 lakh cars annually. Maruti Suzuki India had shut down both its Manesar and Gurgaon plants in Haryana from March 8.

However, Maruti has not announced when it will start production at its Gurgaon plant. The Manesar plant produces models such as the Alto, Swift, Dzire, S-Presso, Irtiga and Blaeno. While the Gurgaon plant produces models like S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Ignis and Super Carry.

MSI chairman RC Bhargava told reporters that production at the Manesar plant had started and construction of the first car would be completed today. Asked when the plant would start operating at full capacity, he said it was a matter of government policy. Is dependent.
