Government of India clarifies: 'We don't have a Twitter handle going viral in the name of Gilgit-Baltistan'

New delhi date. 13 May 2020, Wednesday

The Indian government has made it clear that it has nothing to do with the Twitter handle Gilgit-Baltistan. In fact, only recently, the followers of the Twitter account @GB_Ladakh_India, created in the month of May, started growing. The Twitter account was claimed to be the official Twitter handle of Union Ladakh but the government has clarified that the information provided in the account is incorrect.

A Union Home Ministry spokesperson clarified that only @DIPR_LEH and @ informationDep4 are the official Twitter handles of Union Territory of Ladakh and have nothing to do with any other handle. As soon as the @GB_Ladakh_India account was launched, people started betting on it. Pakistan has illegally occupied the Gilgit-Baltistan region and the Indian government has repeatedly urged Pakistan to withdraw.

The fake Twitter account claims to be the official Twitter account of Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh (Union Territory), as well as the location of Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh (UT). Other information also includes a user link from the Ladakh administration. The handle went viral shortly after its launch on Twitter and was followed by thousands of people.

A few days ago, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a report on the weather conditions in Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad.
