Corona virus vaccine ready or not, America will reopen: Trump

Washington, Sunday 17 May 2020

US President Donald Trump has said that whether the corona vaccine is ready or not, the United States will reopen, adding that he intends to develop a corona virus vaccine by the end of the year.

The BBC said in a report that it compared the vaccine project Operation Warp Speed to efforts to build the world's first nuclear weapon during World War II.

However he acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Coronavirus's vaccine, which has been widely used in the United States.

President Trump told a news conference at the White House's Rose Garden on Friday that the project would begin with research and approval on 14 vaccine candidates.

He spoke of a partnership between the government and the private sector to find and distribute a vaccine, and named an Army general and a former healthcare executive to lead the operation.

Monsif Saloi, who previously led the vaccine division at pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, will lead the mission, while General Gustav Parna will serve as chief operating officer to oversee distribution for the U.S. military.
