7 to 8 candidates are working fast in making corona vaccine: WHO

New delhi date. 12 May 2020, Tuesday

WHO chief Tedros Adhnom Gabriess said in a video conference with the UN Economic and Social Council on Monday that there are about 7-8 top candidates for the vaccine to fight the coronavirus who are working fast to make the vaccine.

The director general of the health organization said the availability of the corona vaccine was estimated to be 12 to 18 months two months ago. But even in these difficult times of the epidemic, fast work has been done.

"Leaders, organizations and banks from 40 countries have contributed about Rs 60,000 crore a week for research, treatment and testing of the virus," Tedros said. However, he said that given the cost of vaccines, the amount is not enough.

Tedrose said more money would be needed to work faster on the vaccine. Once the vaccine is developed, it will have to be mass-produced so that no one in any part of the world is deprived of it.

"In the current situation, we have about 100 vaccine candidates, of which better results can be expected from 7 or 8," he said via video conference.

However, Tedros did not say what options were included in the top vaccine. He said WHO is working closely with thousands of researchers around the world to develop animal models and to design clinical trials.

A team of more than 400 scientists is also active in vaccine discovery and diagnostics, Tedros said. The chief of the WHO said that corona is a very dangerous virus. More than 4 million people have been infected so far and more than 275,000 people have died.

Tedros said the epidemic has taught the whole world a painful lesson. How much we need to fix our own health system with a strong nation. It was learned about.

Just last week, Israel and Italy spoke of their success in developing a vaccine for the corona virus. Estimates are still being made of how long it will take for the corona vaccine to arrive.
