Jammu and Kashmir: After the removal of Article 370, 79 terror incidents, 450 people held in prisons

The government said on Tuesday that since August 5, there have been 79 terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since the special status provision of Article 370 was abolished.

State Home Minister G Kishan Reddy provided this information in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

Reddy said that a total of 79 incidents of terrorism took place in Jammu and Kashmir from August 5, 2019 to March 10, 2020. In response to another question, he said that the Pulwama attack was also under investigation.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 450 people have been kept in various jails

While responding to another question, he said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that about 450 people are currently being held in various jails in Jammu and Kashmir. Minister of State for Home Kishan Reddy provided this information in a written reply to the question of A. Ganesh Murthy in the Lok Sabha.

Based on information received from the Jammu and Kashmir government, he said that about 450 people, including stonewarers, stormy elements, active separatists, etc., have been detained for violating peace and security, dangerous to the security of the state and maintaining law and order. These people have been kept in various prisons and auxiliary prisons.

Responding to the question of keeping the leaders under surveillance, he said that they are regularly reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Accordingly, detention periods are extended or canceled based on local agencies' reports and land conditions.
