The election for 55 vacant seats in Rajya Sabha in April will be held on March 26, the Election Commission said in a statement. Of the 55 seats, 51 are from 17 states. These 51 seats are vacated on different dates in April. The remaining four seats have already been vacated as the MPs have resigned.

The term of MPs who have resigned also expires in April. A notification on this election will be issued on March 6 and the last date for filing the form is March 13. The counting of votes will begin on March 26, an hour after the election is over.

The leading MPs to be retired include Harivansh (JD-U), Rajya Sabha Speaker, Union Minister Ramdas Arythwale (RPE-Arythwale), Congress leader Motilal Vora, former union ministers Vijay Goyal (BJP), Kumara Selja of Madhya Pradesh, BJP. Happens.

Of the 55 vacant Rajya Sabha seats in April, seven from Maharashtra, six from Tamil Nadu, five from West Bengal, five from Bihar, four from Odisha, four from Andhra Pradesh, three from Assam, three from Madhya Pradesh, three from Rajasthan, three from Telangana and two from Chhattisgarh. , One in Himachal Pradesh, one in Manipur and one in Meghalaya.
