63 Congress candidates lost deposit, less than five percent voted

(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. February 11, 2020, Tuesday

Congress has made a poor record in the Delhi Assembly elections. 63 Congress candidates lost the deposit and got less than five percent of the vote. The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years under the leadership of the late Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, could not win a single seat in the Delhi assembly elections for the second time in a row.

Only three Congress candidates, Arvindar Singh Lovely Gandhinagar, Devender Yadav Badli and Abhishek Dutt were able to save their deposits from Kasturba town while the Congress did not stand on the four seats. If a candidate fails to get one-sixth of the total valid votes in any constituency, his security deposit is forfeited.

The situation was so bad for the Congress that even Shivana Chopra, daughter of Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra, could not save her deposit from Kalkaji. The deposit of Priyanka Singh, daughter of former Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri, was also seized.

Purnam Azad, wife of Kirti Azad, chairman of the party's election committee, was also badly beaten. He received only 2,604 (2.23 percent) votes. In view of the chronology of the collapse of the Congress, in the beginning of the era of Sheila Dikshit in 1998, Congress ruled Delhi with victory over the Bawan seats. Since then, congressional seats have been steadily declining.

However, under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit, the Congress won 47 seats in 2003 and 43 in 2008. However, the collapse of the Congress began after the Anna movement. He won only eight seats in the 2013 election. Then, in 2015 and 2020, Congress could not get a single seat.

Three 'P's were the reason for your victory

Arvind Kejriwal's hat-trick in Delhi Assembly elections is responsible for three 'P' personalities, programs and parties. You came to the electoral field under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, who has a clean image without corruption in politics. With a strong leader you give more importance to the development work he has done in the last five years. Even during this time you have maintained your credibility among the people of Delhi, which was one of the important reasons for his victory.

We were previously at zero, we are still at zero today, defeat is for BJP: Congress leader
