The coldest night in 12 years with minus 17.6 degrees in Killong, Himachal

North India has once again had a cold empire. There was mercury in the areas from Kashmir to Rajasthan. In Killong, Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, people experienced the coldest night in the last 12 years.

The temperature was minus 17.6 degrees. The mercury plunged down to 0.3 degrees in the halwara of Punjab. In Delhi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.3 degrees. The meteorological department said that the temperature would go down further in the next two to three days and cool down.

In Killong, Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, people experienced the coldest night in the last 12 years. The temperature was minus 17.6 degrees. Killong had previously recorded a minimum temperature of minus 18.4 degrees on January 31, 2008.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that 66 people, including a pregnant woman, were taken to Lahaul Spiti by air lift and shifted to Kullu. The Meteorological Department in Shimla warned of heavy rains and snow showers from January 13 to 16.

The average minimum temperature in the state was 3-4 degrees Celsius. In Kashmir's Pahalgam, the temperature was minus 14.3 degrees while Gulmarg was minus 13 degrees. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was 1.9 degrees. It was raining in some hilly areas of Uttarakhand.

As a result, mercury swept through the plains. The temperature was minus 0.5 degrees in Mussoorie while Nainital recorded minus 2 degrees. In Uttar Pradesh, too, mercury plummeted, with Etowah being the coldest city on Friday with 4.6 degrees. Lucknow recorded a temperature of 7 degrees.

Rajasthan's Mount Abu recorded a low of 3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was five degrees below average in most parts of the state. The minimum temperature was recorded at Fatehpur in Sikar in Rajasthan, minus 1.8 degrees, Pilani 1.6 degrees and Churu.
