Special dress code now at Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Varanasi Date: January 13, 2020, Monday

It was formally announced that a special dress code has been set up for admission and worship in the womb at the Jagamshahur Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttar Pradesh.

The men who want to go near Shivling and offer milk and water etc. will now have to wear dhoti and women must wear saree. Believers wearing dresses like pants shirts, jeans or Punjabi dresses will no longer have the right to go to the womb and worship.

This rule will come into force from the 15th of January after the Capricorn transition. The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the administrators of Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Kashi Vidyavat Parishad at the Commissioner's Auditorium on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Neilkantha Tiwari, Minister for Charity Affairs. Dr. Tiwari presented this proposal against the Kashi Vidyapeeth Conference which was unanimously accepted.

Council members cited examples of Ujjain's Mahakal temple, Rameswaram and Sabarimala temple. At the Mahakal Temple, those who wish to touch the time of the ascension must wear the traditional attire.
