New delhi date. January 27, 2020, Monday

The apex court had on Tuesday re-petitioned Mukesh Singh, who has been sentenced to death in the Nirbhaya rape-murder case.

The Bench, headed by the Chief Justice, said that if the judge decides to execute on February 1, his application should be given priority and a hearing should be done as soon as possible. Mukesh Singh, the guilty of Nirbhaya, had rejected the mercy petition filed by the President and challenged him.

The court had held its hearing on Tuesday .In 2012, Nirbhaya was gang-raped and subsequently killed to such an extent that he was killed while undergoing treatment abroad.

It is worth mentioning that the President rejected Mukesh Singh's mercy petition on January 17. According to Mukesh's lawyer, Vrinda Grover, we applied under section 32 for a judicial review of the way the mercy petition was rejected. He said that the Supreme Court did not adhere to the norms prescribed in the Enemy Chauhan Chapter.
