If the NPR does not endorse, the Center cannot even enforce the NRC: Chidambaram

New delhi date. January 18, 2020, Saturday

Congress leader P.K. Chidambaram said every opposition to the Citizenship Investigation Act (CAA) and the NRC should understand the needs of the issue and come together on stage.

He said that if any citizen does not sign the NPR, it will benefit that the government cannot punish anyone under the NRC. Chidambaram joined the protests organized by the CAA and the NRC in Kolkata.

In the meantime they also had conversations with people. Chidambaram also said that NPR is only part of the NRC. Congress will not allow NPR to be implemented from 1st April.

Chidambaram said that after the failure of the NRC in Assam, the BJP had to change aspects and now they have left the NRC and started talking about the NPR issue.

Chidambaram said that this NPR is also a part of the NRC. If people do not support NPR and give no information then the government cannot enforce NRC and will not harass innocent people.

Chidambaram had also appealed to all parties to unite against the NRCA, CAA and NPR. Chidambaram's statement came out at that time.

While the Congress convened an all-party meeting on the CAA and NRC issues, most of the major parties did not join. Therefore, Chidambaram has appealed that every opposition be united in this matter and work together.
