Adani Group Out from Submarine Construction Project: Decision of Defense Atomic Energy Department

New Delhi, 22 Jan 2020, Wednesday

It is learned that Adani Defense has been fired from the companies destined for six submarines to be built for the Indian Navy.

On Tuesday, the Department of Atomic Energy showed green flags to Mazgaon Dockyard Limited and Larson & Toubro. The Adani Defense, Hindustan Shipyard and Aerospace claims were rejected by the High Power Committee for technical reasons from the Rs 50,000 crore P-75I project.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. Bipin Rawat became the country's first CDS after retiring as the head of the Indian Army.

Opponents of the central government's decision to involve Adani in the project were consistently critical, and Adani's chairman Gautam Adani was accused of being the prime minister Narendra Modi's project. The opposition also alleged that Adani had no prior experience of such work.

The High Power Committee also decided to purchase 5,100 crore indigenous equipment, including electronic warfare, in line with the Make in India policy.

This was the first meeting of the High Power Committee after General Rawat became CDS. A Defense Department spokeswoman said that the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the P-75I project was shown to be on the move.
