Onion prices do not take the name down. Housewives have to pay more money than ever before as prices continue to rise. Today, the price of a kilo of onion has reached Rs 200 in Madurai in Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru in Karnataka. An official from the state of Karnataka said that the prices of onions were touching the sky when there was low availability of onion in the market.

The wholesale price was Rs 5500 to Rs 14000 per kg. The retail price in the city was Rs 200 per kg. Thus the queen of kitchens from ordinary housewives to wealthy houses really cried all women today. Due to the rising prices of onions, the onions have disappeared from home cooking.

Shopkeepers are also now serving cabbage instead of onions. An official said that there was no possibility of onion prices falling until next January.

According to one estimate, about 150 metric tonnes of onion is needed across the country. In Karnataka, 20.19 lakh metric tonnes of onion was produced. But due to the damage to the standing crop, about fifty percent of the onions were bad. As a result there was a shortage of onions all over the country.
