Navy warship deployed to protect UN ship carrying food to Africa

Somali pirates are threatened by ships passing through the coast of Africa. Indian Navy ships regularly guard against these pirates. Recently, a naval ship 'INS Trikand' has been deployed under the UN World Food Program to protect ships carrying goods.

The Indian Navy released photos and information of the ration-laden cargo ship 'MV Annika' and the ongoing Indian warship INS Trikand via Twitter.

In many countries in Africa, people do not get enough food. The United Nations regularly sends various aid materials and nutritious food to the people under the Food Program.

Merchant vessels carrying such materials do not have weapons. These ships are a soft target for pirates. Indian Navy's help is sought to protect it. In the past, several Indian Navy ships have also been patrolling the coast of Somalia.

The ship sails from Berberra, the port of Somalia, on its way to Mombasa, Kenya. The cargo ship sailed on December 14 and is expected to arrive on December 22 at Mombasa, about 3,000 kilometers south. Its route runs along the coast of Somalia.

Pirates are more at risk this way. So the ship has been provided protection by the Indian Navy. The Indian Navy is the largest and most capable naval power in the entire Indian Ocean (Indian Ocean Region). Many of these defensive operations, from Africa to Australia, come from the Indian Navy's ships.
