Namami Ganga used only 35% of the finance under the project in four and a half years: Ganga Conservation Department

New delhi date. 30 December 2019, Monday

The Ganga Defense Department itself informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee that the Central Government, which launched the large-scale withdrawal in 2015, has not properly implemented the plan.

When the scheme was launched in 2015, the Ganga and its branches were cleared of the rivers, in addition to their conservation (that is, it will not be dirty again and cleanliness is maintained).

The government has allocated Rs 20,000 crore for the implementation of the scheme. For the first two years nothing worked and no money was spent. In the next two-and-a-half years, only Rs 7,000 crore was spent by October 31, 2019, the Secretary of the concerned department acknowledged in an oral report submitted to the standing committee of Parliament.

Describing the reason for this, the Secretary said that the Ganga is a Mahanadi. The work of integrating everything from the origin of its branches, its flow, to the areas where it flows into the plains, is huge and is not overnight, so all this integration takes a lot of time and energy.

Under these circumstances, only 35 per cent of the Rs 20,000 crore was spent. It can be said that the scheme was running at a slow pace to shame the crowd.
