'Killer Coldwave': 73 killed in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand

Blizzard has plagued all over North India and Bihar, Jharkhand. In north India, the stagnant cooling has increased with record declining temperatures day and night.

Due to the cold, 54 people were killed in different parts of Uttar Pradesh while 15 people were killed in Bihar. However, the governments of both states did not confirm the deaths due to the cold.

In the last 24 hours, cold has claimed four lives in Jharkhand. On the other hand, cold weather has remained unchanged in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. Srinagar, the new union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded the coldest night of the season, while Rajasthan's Jaipur recorded the lowest temperature of the last 50 years.

39 people have lost their lives in Kanpur, Bundelkhand and surrounding districts of Uttar Pradesh. They include 21 people in Kanpur, 4-4 in Fatehpur and Hamirpur, 3-3 in Unnao and Mahoba, two in Jhansi.

Nine people lost their lives due to the cold in the eastern districts including Varanasi. The entire north-west is shaken due to the snowy northwest snow coming from the snow-covered Uttarakhand Mountains. The drastic cooling has increased due to the drastic drop in day and night temperature.

In Bihar, 10 people were killed while two went missing in Betiya, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Motihari, Madhubani and two in Araria. However, the disaster management department of the Bihar government did not confirm a single death due to the cold. In Jharkhand, one person has been killed in Gumla, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh and Ranchi in the last 24 hours.

Lucknow with a temperature of 6.9 degrees

Cold wave became more intense in many parts of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. According to the meteorological department, the eastern and western parts of the state are expected to receive rain on Tuesday. Visibility was reduced in several places in the state due to moderate to heavy fog on Sunday. Lucknow recorded a temperature of 6.9 degrees. Keeping in view the record-breaking cold, the district administration directed the schools to be closed for students from pre-primary to grade-8. The weather was mostly dry and cold in the state.

Temperatures of 5.3 degrees in Gaya, Bihar

Cold care remained unchanged throughout Bihar including Patna. The minimum temperature in Gaya, Bihar, was recorded at 5.3 degrees on Sunday while cooling was due to return winds and fog. The Met office said the minimum temperature in Patna was 6.8 degrees on Sunday, 7.3 degrees in Bhagalpur and 6.3 degrees in Purnia. In Patna, people are not likely to get cold relief for the next one or two days.

Coldwave's longest spell in 22 years in Delhi

The longest cold wave has been seen in Delhi in the last 22 years. 66 trains canceled due to dense fog, 194 trains let
