Gun violence in the United States kills 38,000 people this year

More than 38,000 people have been killed in gun violence in the United States this year (in 2019), according to a nonprofit organization.

An organization called the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) registers gun cases across the United States. The GVA reports that 38,730 people have died due to shootings during the current year. Reportedly, 14,970 cases reported in 2019 were related to intentional killing or accidental shooting. As many as 14,789 such cases were reported in 2018.


According to the GVA report, 23,760 cases of suicide were reported in 2019. A total of 207 children under the age of 11 lost their lives due to gun violence. As many as 473 children were injured. Last year, 762 children, aged 12 to 17, lost their lives and 2,253 children were injured.


There have been 409 incidents of mass shootings and 30 mass shootings in the year 2019. The GVA categorizes these incidents as incidents in which four or more people were injured or died.
