A Supreme Court woman lawmaker challenged a move by Hyderabad police on Thursday night to address four accused who gang-raped a veterinary woman's doctor in Hyderabad and demanded a criminal case against a police officer who conducted the encounter.
The woman's lawyer, Vrinda Grover, said no woman's name could be confronted in this way. This step is criminal and a case should be filed against the police who are facing the encounter.

Vrinda Grover has challenged Hyderabad police across the country and political figures like Mayawati and Umabhaarti have lamented the move.
National Women's Commission Chairman Rekha Sharma said if the police version that the accused were absconding with guns, then the police version is correct. The rest is the Constitution and the judiciary in this country. The police have no right to encounter any accused. The police investigation of the concerned police officers is reduced. Hyderabad police were setting the wrong example.
