Citizenship reform bill leaves Pakistan chilly

Islamabad, Dec 10, 2019 Tuesday

The Citizenship Improvement Bill passed in the Indian Parliament's Lok Sabha on Monday night was overwhelming, and Pakistan issued a statement opposing the bill.

Pakistan claimed that the bill raids the rights of minority Muslims living in India and that the rights of Muslims are likely to be stripped. The bill raises concerns about the safety of Muslims.

Pakistan also alleged that the bill violates all the treaty agreements that have been made between India and Pakistan so far.

In a statement issued by Pakistan's Foreign Department, it claimed that the proposal to grant citizenship to all except Muslims from Pakistan and two other countries was false and violated all international agreements on discrimination on the basis of religion.

Pakistan alleged that this was the first step by right-wing Hindu leaders towards making India a Hindu nation.

The statement claimed that it was a tactic to interfere with the internal affairs of neighboring nations and we strongly oppose it.

Pakistan then linked Kashmir to the issue and added that the atrocities inflicted on the Kashmiri people were also the result of this extreme ideology.
