Approval of the Citizenship Bill on the basis of religion will make India a 'Hindu Pakistan': Tharoor

(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. December 8, 2019, Sunday

While the Modi government is likely to introduce the Citizenship Bill in Parliament on Monday, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that if the Citizenship Amendment Bill is passed in Parliament, it would be akin to the victory of Mahatma Gandhi's thinking on Mahatma Gandhi.

Shashi Tharoor said that if India was granted citizenship on the basis of religion, India would only remain a 'Hindutva version of Pakistan'. The former Union Minister said on Sunday that the Modi government was targeting people of a certain religion and did not want to give shelter and citizenship to the deprived of this religion.

But the BJP has a different attitude towards people of other faiths. Tharoor said that if the Citizenship Amendment Bill passes through Parliament, it would be considered a victory of the views of Mahatma Gandhi over the views of Mahatma Gandhi.
