Petition plea to the president of guilty in Nirbhaya rape-murder case

Vinay Sharma, who was hanged for gang rape and murder on a 23-year-old para-medical student in 2012, filed a mercy petition before President Ram Kovind. Sharma has been locked in Tihar jail since his arrest.

Sharma made the application while Mukesh, another accused in the same case, refused to apply and said he would not do so, ”said a senior Delhi jail official.

In a notice sent to the four convicts on October 29, the jail superintendent informed them that they would have only seven days after receiving the mercy filing notice. Sources said jail authorities could go to court if a mercy petition was not filed. Will do.

Three of the accused have been kept in Tihar jail while one has been kept in Mandoli jail. Last year, the apex court rejected the review petition against the three accused. The court had challenged the death sentence awarded by the trial court and the Delhi High Court. The fourth accused, Akshay Kumar Singh, did not file a review petition.
