Narendra Modi congratulated Devendra Fadnavis

New Delhi / Mumbai Dated 23 November 2019, Saturday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called and greeted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis once again this morning.

The results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections came on October 24, but the government could not be formed, with the Shiv Sena serving a 50-50 feud in the distribution of power.

The Shiv Sena had made great efforts to form a government with the Congress and the NCP and by Friday night there was a belief that the Shiv Sena would form the government and Uddhav Thackeray would take oath on Saturday morning as the Chief Minister.

But overnight the situation was reversed. Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar had broken into a gallop with the BJP and formed the BJP government after accepting the deputy chief minister.

The presidency was abolished at six o'clock this morning and Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as chief minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi phoned Fadnavis by phone from Delhi and congratulated him.
