The economic downturn also affected thermal power plants. 133 thermal power plants were forced to close due to falling industrial and domestic electricity demand, a report said.

On November 11, a total of 133 thermal power plants, including lignite and nuclear power plants, were shut down, including 262 coal-fired units.

According to information provided by the grid operators to the media, the current generation capacity of our power plants is to generate 3,63,370 kilowatts of electricity. But on the seventh of November, total production of 1,88,072 kilowatts of electricity was generated as the industrial sector and domestic demand fell.

Thus, on November 11, the demand was reduced to a situation where 133 thermal plants were forced to close. The reserve shutdown is, in technical terms, the demand that power stations have to be shut down. There are a total of 119 thermal power stations in North India and Western India. These power stations were closed with a reserve shutdown system.

The Central Electricity Authority reported in a November 7 report that thermal power plants with a production capacity of 65,133 kilowatts were facing a forced shutdown.
