Two new Union Territories met the country

The birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of the country that has served the concept of a consolidated India, today received two new Union Territories on October 31. That is Jammu and Kashmir.

The Central Government decided on August 5 this year to cancel the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which had enjoyed special status since the country became independent in 1947. The Center had made both these regions Union Territories by repealing the 370th Article that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision was approved by President Ram Nath Kovind on the 9th of the current month. The Jammu and Kashmir reorganization was implemented from October 31, ie today.

To this day, both Jammu and Kashmir have become union territories.

Like Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislative assembly whereas, like Ladakh Chandigarh, there will be no unincorporated union territory. For the last two and a half months, some restrictions were put in place to establish peace and order in the area, which were gradually being repealed.

To this day, both Jammu and Kashmir have become union territories. The special status of both the areas was abolished after the cancellation of the 370th Article imposed by the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
